Meeting Friday, 15 November:
Wednesday, 13 November 2013

There is an SNHS meeting this Friday. We will be discussing tshirts and planning the Christmas party.

*If you can't make it, make sure to pick up the newsletter from Mr. Lund's room!*

Spread the word, because very few people seem to be getting any SNHS notifications!

Club Picture Day:
Picture day is tomorrow (Friday). Our time is 1:25pm.

We were somehow forgotten in the list, but I will get you a time ASAP. Please keep checking this page and the Facebook for a time!

Here's the deal for SNHS pictures:

If you have anything nerdy (lab coats, xkcd shirts, goggles, safety glasses), bring it to the picture. We'll be stealing goggles and plushies from the science teachers as well. Wear whatever you have on, but please DO NOT WEAR ANOTHER CLUB'S TSHIRT. If you wear another club's t-shirt, you will not be included in the picture.

See you Friday!

SNHS President 2013-2014

Pumpkin Catapult Team:
Hey Pumpkin-Catapulters! We'll be meeting this Saturday (9/14) at 2pm at my house. Contact me for the address.

If anyone could do step #1 (cutting up a 4'x8'), that would put us far ahead! Just tell me you're doing it, and I'll post it on the Facebook and this page that someone is taking care of that job.

Here is our catapult (technically trebuchet).

See you Saturday!

Science Hours Opportunity:
SNHS is building Pumpkin Catapults for Harvest Fair/RoboFest!

Date: Sunday, September 29, 2013 7:30AM-3:00PM (end time may change)
Location: State Fair grounds.
Commitment: You and a team will build a catapult and then help people operate it at the event. Plan to start building next week. The pumpkins are about 8"-10" in diameter and weigh about 6lbs. The catapult doesn't have to be complicated; in fact, if you decide on a complex design, you should have a simple backup. For example, you might want to use a "rubber slingshot" design as a backup. The entire team doesn't need to be at the exhibition date, but you should have at least two people, or enough people to help operate your catapult, depending on design.

In addition to 8 hours on Sunday, all time you spend building the pumpkin catapult counts as Science-related service hours. I will contact the NHS officers to clarify that this can count for NHS hours as well.

If you would like to get involved, contact me (eliserpenn@gmail.com) ASAP.

Shout out to Tony Stano for the great idea!

Our first meeting in Friday, August 23rd after school in room 126. We'll be discussing tshirts, fundraising, and this year's activities. Make sure to be there, since meetings are a mandatory part of SNHS. We'll have snacks and cool experiments. Plus, you might score a tshirt with Mr. Lund's face on it! What could be better?

SNHS Service Forms
Sunday, August 11, 2013

Hi everyone!

I know many of you completed volunteer hours after inductions on May 10th. Make sure to file these "summer hours" before the end of August. Here's a link to the hour form in case you need to print any off. Otherwise, Mr. Lund will offer them in his room.

When you submit Science-related hours, make sure to explain why they are science-related on your form! It will make the officers' jobs easier when we sort through hour forms, and your science-related hours will have a better chance of getting approved.

And just as another friendly reminder, make sure to pay your $10 SNHS fees by October 2nd. Or better yet, turn it in with your forms at the end of August so you don't have to worry about the late fees.

I hope everyone had an excellent summer and is prepared for another phenomenal school year!

PTC's, Shirts, and Possible SNHS-Led Tutoring
Tuesday, February 19th, 2013Hi everyone!
PTC's: If you were unable to make it to the last SNHS meeting, it has been decided that we will sell moon and star cookies along with moon juice. If you would like to volunteer, please let me know ASAP so I know who to expect!
Shirts: SNHS T-shirts were distributed at the last meeting. Please pick yours up as soon as possible in Lund's room. The SNHS shirts are covered in your fee so you do not need to pay any additional money when you pick up the shirts. If possible, wear your SNHS shirt to school on Thursday, February 21st, especially if you plan to volunteer!
SNHS-Led Tutoring: It has been suggested by members that SNHS should lead tutoring sessions in science topics/classes every Tuesday until 4pm. Although I have yet to check with teachers about this, I wanted to put the idea out there for anyone who needs volunteering hours that can be justifiably related to science. I will speak with teachers about this after PTCs.
Happy almost-4-day-weekend!

Back to School Update/Reminder:
Saturday, August 11th, 2012Hi everyone!
Since it's time to head back to school, I'd just like to remind you that we will be more active this year than we've been in past years. Below is a list of to-do's for us to keep in mind as the school year begins.
-For one, we will be paying our SNHS fees on time, agreed? Please turn your fees in to Yesenia Villanueva, our Treasurer. The SNHS fee is $10 and the due date for it is December 7th, 2012. After that point, the fee will increase by $1 a month. It doesn't seem like a lot, but you could end up paying $5 extra by the end of the school year if you neglect to pay your fee in a timely manner.-We need t-shirt designs! Everyone is welcome to submit shirt designs. T-shirt designs can be submitted at any time before the end of the day on Friday, August 31st, 2012. There will be an additional fee for the shirts after we decide on a design. There will be a meeting to vote of shirt designs after the 31st.-Keep track of your volunteering hours for SNHS. You can update them online or pick up volunteering sheets from Mr. Lund's room. You may use any volunteering done with/for other clubs. Remember that you should have a minimum of 30 hours overall, but 10 need to be justifiably related to science. -For anyone who needs volunteering hours, more updates on decorating the SNHS board and tutoring fellow students will be posted as school starts.-Remember that SNHS updates will also be posted on the SNHS Facebook page
Have an amazing school year!
Ta Xiong
SNHS, President 2012-2013
